Victoria Beckham - a true turnaround
So when I look back, Victoria Beckham is a label that’s always been on the verge of being “out” of our edit. Its popularity and resale value have been steadily declining for years and it was a perennial discussion on whether to refuse her pieces as a rule. But we have a few of the VB wider team as sellers and so it’s always been hard to turn away some of the gorgeous handbags, coats, tailoring and silk bits & pieces we’ve been offered. One Netflix documentary later and suddenly things are very different.
Although the chat has died down now, when the documentary dropped, it was the number one subject for discussion in the shop. Regardless of how women felt about her previously the overwhelming feeling now is that she’s a talented survivor who has made mistakes in the past but has persevered and is turning her business around. Her history as a Spice Girl and being married to a famous footballer is almost irrelevant. She had a vision and she’s made it happen. Admittedly via a route that isn’t available to anyone who isn’t a multi-millionaire (or is married to one) - but most now agree that her beauty line is incredible (and a huge success) and her clothing designs are mostly covetable and fabulous quality. If I sound like a superfan, I was convinced by the documentary. As someone who has had a strong vision and commitment to my own business, I felt her pain and loved her resolve.
And we have sold more VB in the last month than we have in the last two years.

Her silk shirts are simply beautiful quality - the four above are a few that we have at the moment - and her tailoring is sharp and faultless. One criticism is always that she cuts everything on a very long lean silhouette but if you are not long and lean then the fit can be challenging - but we try to take in pieces that are either “tailorable” or a pretty standard fit.

And her leather accessories and beautiful - without glaring logos - and at a great resale price to RRP comparison

But she’s best known for her dresses - which have evolved from the Roland Mouret-heavy designs of her early years to a much more fluid silhouette.
