Hattie Carnegie emigrated from Austria to the United States as a small child and chose to change her name from Kanengeiser to Carnegie because it sounded "successful" (from industrialist Andrew Carnegie). After various jobs as a teenager, she began her design career making hats, and eventually went on to become one of the most prominent and award-winning clothing designers of her time. A shrewd entrenpreneur, Hattie also went on to produce her own perfume, jewelry, and other accessories. She mentored many rising designers and was truly a woman ahead of her time. One of her NYC showroom models was young Lucille Ball who Hattie mentored.
This very unusual faceted glass bead choker includes unusual elongated white milky glass, textured iridescent beads and faceted clear crystal. It is stamped and and looks unworn. Adjustable from 36-42cm in length.
