Seemingly out of nowhere, Rixo has become one of our most requested and best selling designers at Shonamac.com in the last few years. From their easy to wear silk blouses (of which I’ve definitely spotted a few on my allotted ‘one a day’ walks) to their ultra flattering bright printed midi dresses, they seem to remain a firm favourite across generations, sizes and occasions. A print we have in stock currently even made a cameo on Aisling Bea in the new Netflix film Love Wedding Repeat (not a recommendation for the film by the way!).
Rather amazingly, Rixo has only been going for 5 years and is the result of a collaboration between two London College of Fashion graduates Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey. They founded the business within a year of graduating, noticing the lack of beautifully made dresses at a reasonable pricepoint and their friends lusting after their own printed vintage silk finds. Entirely self funded, with each half of the duo putting in £3000 of their personal savings, the business took off but remains a private partnership. The pair have made a commitment to limited runs and rather beautifully, every single print is hand drawn in their London studio which definitely helps them maintain a brand authenticity and ensures instantly recognisable pieces. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar McCloskey noted “We don’t design for one particular type of woman and we don’t follow trends. We want RIXO items to stand the test of time: “future vintage.” Unlike some brands who have been less supportive of the preloved and circular models, Rixo totally supports this product lifecycle which gives us just another reason to love them!
Rixo’s silk styles remain local favourites in the shop but they have also branched out into sequin partywear, swimwear and accessories all at a premium price point. Perhaps it’s no wonder that no matter the occasion, from wedding to first date, our customers are always searching for that next Rixo piece to fill their wardrobes.
